Hungarian Jam-Filled Donuts, known as Szalagos Fánk, are one of Hungary’s most beloved traditional pastries. These light, fluffy yeast-raised donuts are fried until golden, generously dusted with powdered sugar, and traditionally served with a spoonful of apricot or plum jam in the center.
The donuts in the photo have the classic Hungarian appearance, with a beautiful golden exterior, snowy powdered sugar, and dark fruit jam in the middle.
🇭🇺 What Is Szalagos Fánk?
The name Szalagos Fánk means “ribbon donut” in Hungarian. The name refers to the characteristic lighter-colored band or “ribbon” that can form around the middle of a properly fried donut.
Unlike American-style donuts, Hungarian fánk are usually made from a soft yeast dough and are fried without a hole in the center. They’re traditionally served with powdered sugar and fruit jam.
