Step 1 – Cook the Potatoes
Boil the potatoes until tender. Drain well, mash, and let cool completely.
Step 2 – Make the Dough
Mix the mashed potatoes with the flour, egg, butter, and salt until a soft dough forms.
Step 3 – Shape the Dumplings
Roll the dough into ropes about 2 cm (¾ inch) thick. Cut into small bite-sized pieces.
Step 4 – Boil
Bring a large pot of salted water to a gentle boil. Cook the dumplings for 3–4 minutes, or until they float to the surface. Drain well.
Step 5 – Prepare the Breadcrumbs
Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the breadcrumbs and cook, stirring constantly, until golden brown. Stir in the sugar and cinnamon.
Step 6 – Coat the Dumplings
Add the cooked dumplings to the skillet and toss gently until evenly coated with the buttery cinnamon breadcrumbs.
Step 7 – Serve
Transfer to serving plates and dust generously with powdered sugar.
Tips
- For extra flavor, add a little vanilla sugar to the breadcrumb mixture.
- Serve warm with plum jam or applesauce.
- Leftover dumplings reheat well in a skillet with a little butter.
