Hungarian Cabbage Noodles (Káposztás Tészta)

Káposztás Tészta, or Hungarian Cabbage Noodles, is a simple and comforting traditional Hungarian dish made with tender caramelized cabbage, egg noodles, onions, and plenty of freshly ground black pepper.

It’s an inexpensive, satisfying meal that can be served as a main dish, side dish, or comforting meatless dinner. 🇭🇺

Ingredients

• 1 lb (450 g) wide egg noodles
• 1 small green cabbage, about 2 lb (900 g), finely shredded
• 1 large onion, finely chopped
• 3 tbsp vegetable oil or lard
• 1 tbsp granulated sugar
• 1–2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
• 1 tsp salt, plus more for the pasta water
• 1 tbsp butter, optional
