
Instructions
- Prepare the cabbage: Carefully remove the cabbage leaves and blanch them in boiling water until soft. Drain and let them cool.
- Make the filling: Mix the ground pork, rice, onion, garlic, paprika, salt, and pepper until well combined.
- Stuff the leaves: Place a spoonful of filling in each cabbage leaf. Fold in the sides and roll tightly.
- Prepare the pot: Spread some sauerkraut over the bottom of a large pot. Arrange the stuffed cabbage rolls on top and add the remaining sauerkraut around them.
- Add the sauce: Pour over the tomato sauce and enough water or broth to almost cover the cabbage rolls. Add smoked pork or sausage if desired.
- Cook: Cover and simmer gently for about 1½–2 hours, until the cabbage is tender and the filling is fully cooked.
- Serve: Let the dish rest for a few minutes, then serve hot with plenty of sour cream.
